The project

The Drinking Water and Sanitation Programme in five wilayas has established 51 new drinking water supply systems, rehabilitated 30 existing systems and carried out initiatives relating to hygiene and sanitation (using the ATPC approach) and the construction of sanitation facilities (‘communal’ latrines for 280 localities). Furthermore, this programme has strengthened the sectoral strategies of the Ministry of Water and Sanitation. Within the consortium, Hydroconseil provided technical assistance to the Sanitation Directorate, as well as expertise on programme-related aspects.

Our services as part of the project

  • Technical assistance to the programme’s project owner, provided by the MHA;
  • Technical support to the Sanitation Directorate and its decentralised departments for the implementation of the project;
  • Support for the introduction of objective-based planning;
  • Support for strengthening the sanitation sector in the project area;
  • Formulation of proposals for the transfer of sectoral project management to decentralised local authorities;
  • Capacity building in hygiene and sanitation;
  • Support for programme monitoring and the drafting of progress reports;
  • Facilitation and organisation of multi-stakeholder consultation forums;
  • Support for the preparation of tender documents, selection procedures and the drafting of contracts for the hygiene and sanitation component.
