The project
The Lake Chad Resilience and Employment Project (RESTE), funded by the Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, aims to promote socio-economic development and to increase the resilience of communities affected by violence perpetrated by ElAO (Islamic State in West Africa, formerly Boko Haram) in the Lake Chad region. The project’s Water component focuses on drilling boreholes, installing and rehabilitating human-powered pumps, setting up mini-water supply systems and constructing WASH infrastructure to ensure widespread, sustainable and equitable access to safe drinking water and sanitation for around 600,000 people across an area covering more than 400 villages.
Our services as part of the project
Project management in close collaboration with the DUE, coordination of activities with the relevant ministries and other sectoral stakeholders, and assessment of the project’s impact on public health, reflecting an improvement in living conditions.
Actions conducted:
- Technical, administrative and financial monitoring of all contracts under the Water component and oversight of the delivery of services by contractors (delegated project manager, construction contractors, NGOs responsible for implementing supporting measures and
- Assistance with the handover of works and facilitation of field operations in liaison with users’ associations and water point management committees
- Periodic evaluation of project performance
- Participation in sectoral coordination with NGOs, donors and international institutions (UNICEF, ICRC, UNHCR, etc.) supporting WASH initiatives in the Lake Chad region
- Establishment of a health data collection system and conduct of a study on the project’s impact on the health of beneficiary populations.
- Coordination with the relevant ministries and other stakeholders involved in the project’s Water component, as well as beneficiary community organisation
